Guests: Willie Nelson, Connie Smith, Leroy Troy, and The Fabulous Superlatives

Eddie Stubbs started the show by introducing the guests. "From Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital of the world and home of the air castle of the south, it's time for The Marty Stuart Show, featuring Marty Stuart, the Rolls Royce of country singers Miss Connie Smith, the ole Tennessee Slicker Leroy Troy, along with all the Fabulous Superlatives: Cousin Kenny Vaughan, Handsome Harry Stinson, the Apostle Paul Martin, plus Gary Carter on the steel guitar, and today's special guest, Country Music Hall of Famer Willie Nelson. Join us now for 30 minutes of fun and great country music. I'm Eddie Stubbs. Now how 'bout a Superlative welcome for our host, a Mississippi-pedigreed guiter pickin' man,. here is Marty Stuart." Eddie added, "Got the pedigree." Marty said, "Thank you, Mr. Stubbs." Marty and His Fabulous Superlatives performed "Branded."

Marty said, "Welcome to the Marty Stuart Show. So glad to have ya. We got country music. Big time country music on our mind today. Stick around with us for the next half hour. We'll do all we can to entertain ya. Superlatives?" The Superlatives said, "Yeah?" Marty continued, "Gonna be big." Someone said, "It is." Marty goes on, "We got a dear friend here. A man I love and admire so much. Talk about an American original. He personafies it all. How 'bout a hand for my friend and yours, the great Willie Nelson. Come here, Willie." Willie walks on stage. Marty says, "Well all right." Willie says, "Good Hearted Woman." Marty said, "Good Hearted Woman." Willie said, "Let's do 'Good Hearted Woman'." Marty said, "Ya'll know that one, right." Willie said, "Let's do this for Waylon, you want to?"

Marty said, "Just exactly right." Willie said, "Thank you very much." Eddie promoted the latest album Ghost Train: The Studio B Sessions. After a commercial break, Marty and Willie were on stage and Marty said, "Welcome, my friend." Willie said, "Hey, Marty, how ya doin'." Marty said, "Fine, Wil, glad to have you here. Thank you for comin' by. Willie said, "My pleasure." Marty continued, "Hey, Connie Smith is gonna come out here and sing a song that you and Hank Cochran wrote." Willie said, "Right." Marty said, "And will you stick around and pick a little bit?" Willie said, "I'd love to." Marty said, "Introduce Connie Smith." Willie said, "Here's my favorite girl singer comin' out here right now. Miss Connie Smith." Marty says, "Hey, hey." Connie sang, "Darling, Are You Ever Coming Home."

Marty said, "That's all right, baby." Willie and Marty start playing their guitars. "What about it, Willie?," Marty says. Willie says, "Why not." They sang "Mama, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys."

Eddie said, "Valuable advice and song there from Willie Nelson and Marty Stuart.together with 'Mama, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys'. " Eddie promoted Marty's book of photographs, Country Music: The Masters. After a commercial break, in which RFD-TV congratulated Marty and Connie on their Grammy Nominations, Marty and Willie are on stage. Marty said, "All right, Willie." "All right," Marty and Willie said together. Marty continued, "Willie, I'm proud to tell ya that my home state of Mississippi is the sponsor of this show." Willie said, "All right." Marty continued, "And there's a town in east-central Mississippi that's near and dear to my heart and that's Meridian. I'm gonna tell ya all about in the weeks ahead. Meridian, Mississippi is Mississippi's royal city for country music. And the reason for that is it's the home of the Father of Country Music, Jimmie Rodgers." Willie said, "That's right." Marty continues, " You'll find the Jimmie Rodgers Museum there. It's a must-see. And if you like country music, I might suggest you atttend the Jimmie Rodgers Festival which has been happenin' each year the third weekend of May since 1953. And in Meridian, you'll find the Blues Trail Marker as well as a Country Music Trail Marker #1 honoring Jimmie at the Oak Grove cemetery where he now rests. While you're there, take him a flower. Speakin' of flowers, got one for ya." Willie said, "Whatcha got?" Marty said, "The Sultan of Goodlettsville, the ole Tennessee Slicker, the most popular man in country music. Gonna sing 'On The Road Again'. One of your big hits " Willie said, "All right." Marty says, "Here's Leroy Troy, Willie. How 'bout a hand for Leroy, everybody."

Marty: "Leroy, that's Willie. Willie, that's Leroy."

Leroy: "Playin' 'On The Road Again'. Here it goes."

Marty said, "You took care of that right there. Did Willie's song right in front of him. Did Willie's song right in front of him. That's all right." Eddie Stubbs said, "Fine job right there from Leroy Troy and Marty and Willie Nelson, and the Apostle Paul and 'On The Road Again'. Well, today we've had no shortage of Willie Nelson compositions. And as we declare hymn time this week, we'd like to go back and get one of the early songs that Willie wrote. Actually, he sold this song for fifty dollars. It's been recorded many times over the years. Willie Nelson to sing 'Family Bible'."

After a commercial break, Eddie Stubbs promoted the latest album Ghost Train: The Studio B Sessions. Eddie said, "Once again, here's Marty Stuart." Marty said, "Thank you very much, Eddie Stubbs. One more time, how 'bout a big cheer for my man Willie Nelson. Willie, have I told you lately that I love ya." Willie said, "Yeah, thank you." Marty says, "I love you. We keep you up here every week. One of the greatest records I think that has ever been recorded period, is your version of 'Blues Eyes Crying In The Rain'. Would you honor us with it?" Willie said, "Thank you. Yes." Marty said, "Mr. Willie Nelson, ladies and gentlemen."

Marty said, "Don't get any better than that. That's great. I love you. Thank you very much to Willie Nelson. On behalf of Willie, Connie, we have Leroy Troy, the Fabulous Superlatives, Cousin Kenny, Eddie Stubbs, and Gary Carter, I'm Marty Stuart sayin' 'Thank you for coming to see us.'
