Earl Scruggs gathered an unbelievably talented -- and unbelievably funny -- group of pickers Tuesday night for a show at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Kris Kristofferson, Marty Stuart, Cowboy Jack Clement, Mac Wiseman and others swapped songs and stories, with Marty delivering one of the best. Marty recalled the time that Earl and his longtime partner Lester Flatt were on the road in a well-marked tour bus that stopped at a roadside greasy spoon. The waitress asked Mr. Scruggs, "Are you one of them hillbilly pickers?" Mr. Scruggs: "Why do you ask?" The waitress: "Cause all of them hillbilly pickers have that stupid look about their faces."
