Marty Stuart is producing a new album for Porter Wagoner and among the songs set for inclusion is a Johnny Cash number originally written for the Country Music Hall of Famer. Wagonmaster is set for a spring release on the Los Angeles punk label, Anti-. Marty told Nashville newspaper The Tennessean that Johnny gave him the song "Committed to Parkview" to pass along to Porter in 1981, but forgot to deliver it at the time. Johnny eventually recorded it himself on the 1985 Highwayman album. Marty reports that Porter's new album will be "an unapologetic, hard-core country record. We are bringing Porter's sound into the 21st century." Porter, who turns 80 August 12, will celebrate his 50th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry February 23. |
