Fourteen-year-old Amanda Frank of Wharton Magnet School got a shot that hundreds in town would kill for: She sang for Marty Stuart and MCA label chief Tony Brown. Stuart and Brown were talking to 100 kids from the school at the Hard Rock Cafe yesterday to kick off a program that ties schools to the music industry. Amanda told Stuart that she has already written some 200 songs. Marty asked to her a line or two from one of her songs. She did. "Very impressive," Stuart said. "Hey, Tony, you better sign her."
One problem: Amanda does alternative rock with no country in her repertoire. Are you listening Capricorn Records?
