Marty Stuart says Nashville was well-represented at the White Stripes' show Wednesday at New York's Madison Square Garden featuring Marty's Fabulous Superlatives and Porter Wagoner as opening acts. The White Stripes' Jack White lives in Nashville. "I announced, 'You are going to hear some good rock and roll, but for the next few minutes, you're going to hear a world-class dose of hillbilly music,' and the place went crazy," Marty says. After Marty played "Country Boy Rock and Roll," he and his band backed Porter as he sang about seven songs. "It was wonderful to watch the kids sing along to 'Green Green Grass of Home' and 'Cold Hard Facts of Life,' " he says. "It was wonderful to watch Porter watching the White Stripes. He never quits learning or soaking in what's going on." By Beverly Keel |
