Mayor Phil Bredesen revived a tradition Wednesday night by presenting Marty Stuart with the Mayor's Metronome Award. The honor, last presented to Buddy Killen, 12 years ago, recognizes the music industry's contribution in promoting and helping Nashville.
Stuart has been the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau's International Ambassador since 1993. "He has carried the city everywhere he goes. He's been there every time we've needed him to help," Bredesen said as he presented the award to Stuart immediately preceding the telecast.
Past winners of the Metronome Award include Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, Owen Bradley, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Minnie Pearl, among others.
