Marty Stuart wants his native state to recognize the pickin' and grinnin' part of its musical heritage. "It's country music's time. The world is waiting to come see us in Mississippi," the longtime country crooner said Thursday at the state Capitol. Mississippi already honors its blues heritage with dozens of markers where famous singers were born or where significant events took place. A bill that unanimously passed the state Senate on Wednesday would create similar markers for country music sites. Supporters say the markers would help country fans on their musical pilgrimages. Mississippi claims several country stars, including Faith Hill, Charley Pride and the late Jimmie Rodgers. |
