Last fall I was on a radio show with Marty Stuart, the Philadelphia, Mississippi-born country music artist. After the program, we began talking about my hometown of Hattiesburg.

Stuart recalled that the first McDonald's rstaurant he ever visited was in Hattiesburg. His family used to drive from Philadelphia to shop in Hattiesburg, and he always begged his parents to eat at McDonald.

Stuart recalled, At the time I remembered thinking, when I grow up I'll have it made if I can just live close to a McDonalds. Now I just want to be in a place that's not near a McDonalds."

Marty, in 21st-century America, that's not possible.
