"When I was supposed to be getting an education, I was thinking about guitar solos on Johnny Cash records or how to play bluegrass music. Instead of making me feel inadequate, Mrs. Breland recognized that something else was going on inside my head and she encouraged it. She and her husband were country music fans and, when they would go to concerts, she would bring me souvenirs. She fed my interest in music by doing that and letting me bring my guitar to school if, in turn, I would work harder for her by way of studying. I still keep in touch with her. I love her very much."
