To accommodate a larger crowd, Thacker Mountain Radio will broadcast live in the center from 6-7 p.m. featuring performances by Marty Stuart; his wife, Connie Smith; and the Rising Star Fife and Drum Band. Following the radio show, Stuart will perform a full concert, along with special guests, including Robert Khayat, UM's retiring chancellor. Once referred to as a "Southern-fried 'Prairie Home Companion,'" the free, 10-plus-year-old Thacker Mountain Radio show features musicians and writers each week who help promote Southern culture. It normally broadcasts live from Off Square Books in downtown Oxford at 6 p.m. Thursdays and is rebroadcast statewide at 7 p.m. Saturdays on Mississippi Public Broadcasting. |
