We arrived at the theatre at 7:00, and said hi to Mike by Marty's bus. They have the new bus, it's bigger than the old one but it's still black and silver. Then we went inside and talked to Jimmy at the merchandise table for a few minutes (he said he would have some new things in a month or so), said hi to Pat Johnson (who does the fan club Pen Pals, she lives in CT and goes to most of the shows we go to), and went to find our seats. This is a theatre-in-the-round, with a revolving center stage, and we were eleven rows back so we could see pretty good. Sara Evans opened the show, she does very traditional-sounding music and she's really good. Marty was on next, and he and the R&R Cowboys were awesome, as usual! They had announced at the start of the show that anyone seen taking pictures would be asked to leave, so even though a lot of flashes were going off I decided it was safer to leave my camera in the bag...no way was I going to miss seeing Marty! That left my hands free to write down the set list, and they played
We were disappointed that they didn't do "Clyde" (featuring Steve and Gregg), since they did do "Soldier's Joy" (Brad) and "Last Date" (Gary), and of course the show was "much" too short, but it was wonderful. They were having a good time, and they all looked great. Brad and Gregg have shaved their mustaches/beards off again! The Meet & Greet was announced after the show, and we went to the meeting place. Pat and her sister Colleen came to sit with us and talk while we waited, and Steve came to talk to us for a few minutes, then they called us backstage. We said hi to Brad, then Marty came out and we joined the line. There were very few fan club members there but, as usual, security was pushing people through, so we didn't get to spend time with Marty, but we got our autographs and a hug, and he was happy to see us. Then we went and sat down again for part of Collin Raye's show and he was okay, but he's no Marty!!!We didn't talk to any of the crew, their bus was parked on the other side of the building and we couldn't see both of them at the same time. The drivers finally arrived at midnight, we said hi to Ken (the new crew driver was Tony), and they drove out at 12:30. We headed for home and, while it was very slow going, the storm wasn't as bad yet as they said it would be, and we got home without any major trouble at 5:15 Sunday morning! Next show is April 19 in Celina, OH, and I can't wait! :) Review by Margie Brodmerkle, Oakham, MA |
